The Way Of Cross-Violation To The Unborn

Catholic Church 28-12-2023, 19:32

THE WAY OF CROSS

VIOLATION TO THE UNBORN

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Opening Prayer:

All-powerful and ever-living God, at the transfiguration of your Son Jesus Christ, you manifested him to the whole world with the words: “This is my beloved Son, listen to him” (Lk 9:35).

Jesus, by his Passion and Death on the Cross, has shown us the way to a new life. Through him we are made your children in baptism and the Holy Spirit.

We humbly pray that through this devotion of the Way of the Cross, we may obtain the grace we need as Christians to respect human life, protect all babies, particularly the female child, in the wombs of their mothers. Thus may we also learn more of your salvific love and grow more in the life of your Son Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

Jesus willingly accepted death on the Cross to save us from sin and death. The brutality and the mockery of the soldiers and of the elders were also willingly accepted by him. He only challenged them when they struck him: “If I have said anything wrong, tell me; otherwise why do you beat me?” (Jn 18:23)...

Jesus loved his mother and respected her. He now looks at her. Mary in turn, in her motherly love for Jesus, through the tender look in her eyes, imparts to Jesus the much-needed strength to bear the burden and pain of the sins of all humankind. What a significant union between mother and son!... (READ MORE)

The courage of Veronica, a righteous woman, was remarkable. The blood-stained face of Jesus, bruised by the sins of all humanity, moves her with compassion. Unable to stand the sight, she moves swiftly through the crowd towards Jesus with her towel to wipe the face of Jesus in order to restore its human beauty. As a token of appreciation, Jesus leaves the imprint of his face on the towel. What a miracle indeed!...(READ MORE)

How heavy must have been the burden of our sins, making Jesus fall under the cross a second time! The rough and thorny way of the cross, the beating of the soldiers causing painful wounds, reduced his strength as he progressed towards Calvary. But as the pain and the weakness increased in Jesus, the desire of love for humanity increased in him even more. But alas! where was the person who could be the rightful recipient of that divine love?...

Seeing his humiliation before the cruel crowd, the women of Jerusalem start weeping for Jesus. But Jesus, Son of God, as well as Son of Mary, required nobody’s sympathy. He turns towards the women and tells them: “Women of Jerusalem, weep not for me but for yourselves and your children” (Lk 23:28) -he acutely felt at heart their need of the Father’s mercy and salvation...(READ MORE)

Jesus is at the foot of the hill, his destination not too far, yet his strength fails him again and he falls beneath the Cross the third time. The soldiers too push Jesus forward faster lest he die on the way.

Yes, another fall - another abortion. Another helpless little babe being nourished in the womb of the mother experiences the brutality of the parents. They had vowed not to commit the heinous deed again. But alas! Their resolve weakened, the baby falls from the mother’s womb, lifeless, its piercing cry: “Mother, O Mother! How can you not love me!” snuffed out mid-way...

No one but Jesus, the Son of God could have accepted such a death - a death for others. Jesus frees humanity at the cost of his own life. He gives us a lesson in self-sacrifice saying, “The one who loses his life for my sake will save it” (Mt 10:39). Jesus has preserved our life by virtue of his death. How grateful are we to him for saving us for eternity?...

The body of Jesus now experiences peace. There is no one now to beat him, no one to pull, push or shove. Brought down from the Cross, his body is placed in the arms of Mary, his beloved mother. Even as she gazes on the battered body of Jesus, Mary offers all her heartache for sinful men. The body, prepared for burial, is laid in the tomb, there to lie awhile till the promise of rising again on the third day is fulfilled....

For three days the sacred body of the Lord rests in the tomb. The third day reminds us of the words of Jesus: “Destroy this temple and in three days I will rebuild it” (In 2:19). The resurrection of Jesus is the key point of our faith. We believe that we too will rise again with him from our sinfulness and death....

Concluding Prayer:

Lord God, our Heavenly Father, you sent your only Son Jesus to us so that we may have life in its fullness. Protect the lives of the little babies whom you have sent into the wombs of mothers as your gift to the world. Let them be a sign of your salvific love to all men, an indication that you care for them and protect them in your love for your creation. Protect all babies, especially the girl child, in their mothers’ wombs. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
