Saint Pacianus of Barcelona
Catholic Saint
st.Pacianus of Barcelona-Bishop of Barcelona, Father of the Church
Feast Day : March 9
Also known as: Pacian
The date and place of birth of Pacianus are unknown. He married and had a son, Dexter, who became high chamberlain to Emperor Theodosius, and in 365 (or perhaps 373) he was elected bishop of Barcelona, Spain. He was renowned for his eloquence and learning and wrote much about ecclesiastical discipline; his Exhortation on Penance is considered a classic. In a letter on the Novatian heresy, he made the famous statement, “My name is Christian, my surname is Catholic.” Pacianus died in Barcelona around 390.
