A dramatic short story situated “in the days when the judges ruled” (1.1), the book of Ruth is about a Moabite woman, Naomi, and her daughter-in-law, Ruth, whose for tunes turn when Ruth becomes joined to the Israelite people through her marriage to Boaz. She bears a son, Obed, who becomes the father of Jesse, who, in turn, becomes the father of David. This story underscores the timeless values of loyalty; love of family, and openness to foreigners.
