Methodius’s was bishop of Olympus in Lycia. Educated in philosophy, he gained stature as a theologian and writer. He was the first to mount a formidable attack on Origen. Methodius died a martyr in Tyre during the Diocletian persecution. Methodius was a prolific author. In On the Resurrection he refuted Origen’s argument that the resurrection body was not the same as the physical body during life. Symposium on Virginity is a dialogue extolling Christian virginity.
