The Sacrament of Reconciliation-Contrition
I need contrition, or sorrow for my sins, to receive worthily the Sacrament of Reconciliation and thus heal my relationship with my Heavenly Father whom I have offended. Contrition MUST include a firm purpose to avoid 1) the sins committed and 2) the persons, places, and things that prompted me to sin in the first place. These are called the near occasions of sin. Otherwise, one’s confession can be an abuse of the sacrament.
