Meaning of Christmas Card
The Christmas Card
The tradition of sending Christmas Cards has always been a source of joy, nostalgia, hope and love. It relives memories of all those we hold dear. Above all it carries the beautiful message of Christmas joy of living, hope for a better tomorrow and peace of Christ. The first Christmas card was believed to have been designed by John Callcott Horsley in 1843 for his friend Sir Henry Cole. It pictured a family party in progress, with the greeting: “A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You” beneath it. From 1870 the art printers started printing improved and multi-coloured cards picturing the nativity scene. Make each card a prayer for the person who will receive it. As you sign each card ‘love’, think of what it means to have the incredible grace of loving another person and you will really make the card a prayer and an act of love!
