The book Of The Bible Habakkuk
The prophecy of Habakkuk dates from 605-597 BCE. Habakkuk was a contemporary of Jeremiah and contended similarly that the invading Babylon was a divine in strument sent to chastise Judah. Habakkuk, however, was the first to question God with his famous opening oracle: “O LORD, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen? Or cry to you ‘Violence!’ and you will not save?” (1.2). God’s response is provided as a vision to be written down that Babylon is a chastising rod, and that the just will not perish, but will live by their faith (2.4). This text in which Habakkuk complains to God and receives a vision in response comes from the first two chapters of Ha bakkuk and is read at the liturgy on the Twenty-Seventh Sunday of Year C and on Saturday of the Eighteenth Week of Year II.
