Jesus Christ Savior and Redeemer of the world

Jesus Christ Savior and Redeemer of the world

The mystery of Christ appears in human and world history, subject as it is to sin, as the mystery not merely of the incarnation but of salvation and redemption.

God so loved sinful humanity as to give his Son to reconcile the world with himself (see 2 Cor 5:19). Jesus therefore, the first born of many brothers (see Rom 8:29), holy, innocent, immaculate (see Heb 7:26), freely obedient to his Father out of filial love (see Phil 2:8), accepted death for the sake of his brothers and sisters as their Mediator, death being for them the wages of sin (see Rom 6:23; GS 18). He redeemed the human race from slavery to sin and to the devil by his holy death and he poured out the spirit of adoption on it, establishing a new humanity in himself.
