The book Of The Bible Nehemiah
The last part of the Chronicler’s history is presented as the book of Nehemiah. The layman Nehemiah was responsible for administrative affairs and for rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem in the period of the restoration. The first portion of the text narrates the deeds of Nehemiah (chs. 1-7). The second half describes the formal promulgation of the law (chs. 8-13). A passage from Nehemiah is read on the Third Sunday of the Year in Cycle C. It is the text that describes Ezra, the priest, reading from the law before the people as they rededicate themselves to God before the newly constructed city walls.
