The book Of The Bible 1 Samuel

Samuel plays a prominent role in the first Section of the story in 1 Samuel. Samuel was responsible for David being identified and eventually established as king. The book is the first part of a two-part narrative that carries the story of the Israelite history from the time of the judges to the beginings of the monarchy in Israel under Saul and, then, under David. The Deuteronomistic perspective dominates the narative as it stresses obedience to the covenant, Jerusalem as the central place of worship, and the kingship of David.

First Samuel is read consecutively during Year 11 of the weekday liturgical calendar from Monday of the First Week of the Year until Friday of the Second Week of the Year. In these passages, the birth of Samuel, his call to be prophet of Israel, his leadership among the people of Israel, the anointing of Saul as king, and the replacement of Saul with David as the anointed one are all re membered in the liturgical context.
