Fear Of the Future
“I am terribly anxious about my next appointment.”
“What frightens you?”
“I don’t know what - but I am still afraid of tomorrow.”
“What frightens you is your imagination - that is not really there.”
“In the past there have been very painful experiences in my life.”
“The past is past, long over. It is alive only in your memory. You are using that painful memory to frighten yourself in the present and in conditioning your future.”
“How can I possibly forget my past?”
“Remember your past well. Use it for deeper reflection and learning. Learn from your mistakes. Understand your weaknesses and look for ways of circumventing them. Above all, try to live in the present.
Jesus says, “Do not be anxious. Look at the birds of the air...” (Mt 6:25-34).
